Banner Madness

A Quick Word of Thanks to Our Partners

So far bannermadness is doing well, and as we have said in other articles, we have good working relationships with Azoogle, LinkMarketing, and Google adSence. All of these companies have been great to work with. Their assistance with a fledgling company, like, bannermadness, is greatly appreciated.

Norton and bannermadness

When the owner Milton Samis came up with the concept of highlighting the amalgamation of art and advertising he was unaware of what Norton had in store.

For those of you who have been living in a cave for the last ten years Norton is a company that builds and updates anti-virus software. So over for a while companies advertising products, or web-masters placing ads on their websites, start this nasty habit of making ads pop-up automatically, highjack the user’s browser, or a number of additional irritating and obtrusive behaviors.

Norton looked at these interfering activities with the anxiety it caused individuals browsing the internet and developed a system to block banners, ads, and pop-ups. Some of the ways Norton’s software system blocks ads is to look for images of particular sizes often used for banner ads or hunt for file names with the words ads, advertising, or banner. Once it notices items it finds nefarious Norton block the content.

It happens that Norton regards URLs like www.bannermadness.com, or websites using the word banner in the URL, as disreputable sites. So be careful when you’re purchasing a domain name and find out if the words in the title are banned.
Consequently many of the end users coming to bannermadness found blocked images through out the site despite image blocking being turned off in their virus protection. Funny thing was not a single ad or banner was blocked. Resizing images, renaming files, and even removing the word banner from the website was explored to alleviate the problem. None of these solutions created a cure.

A t this point we feel we have to say, we never considered bannermadness to be disruptive or unrepeatable; instead we believe bannermadness is a customer friendly site providing visitors with helpful services and useful information.

Several e-mails and phone calls were made to Symantec, who are the parent company for Norton anti-virus software, and it seems they agree with us. They have dropped bannermadness from their list of banned sites. Hopeful folks coming to this website will not see the dreaded X where a block image resides.
We want to thank Symantec for addressing the confusion in a prompt and timely manner.

If any one coming to bannermadness has pictures blocked when their image blocking is turned off in their virus protection could they contact us through our contact page.

We apologize for an inconvenience to our visitors, affiliates, or advertisers; and thank you for your patience.
