Resurgence of Advertising on the Web

Advertising on the web is not new but goes back to the early nineteen nineties when text ads and banner ads started to appear on the internet. There was a huge boom in advertising as the decade closed. Many of the ads were making pay outs that had inflated fees. It was not unheard of to have $1.00 click through fees. This means that when an end user or potential customers click on an ad the company posting the ad paid out $1.00. Of course not all end users signed on to the advertiser’s web page or purchased products. It wasn't long before advertisers realized that banner ads were a poor way to allocate their advertising dollars, in other words no bang for the buck. Click through prices went down to 10 cents a click or less.

For the last few years online advertising has been making a come back due new strategies in online advertising and text ads. Text ads have been popularized by Google's adSence and Yahoo's Overture. Companies are starting to advertise on the web in larger numbers than ever before, and consequently banner and logo ads are seeing resurgences. This is because an advertiser can track its potential clients. An advertiser has direct numbers and info on their potential customer from web stats on their web page. Other forms of popular advertising such as T. V., yellow page, or new paper ads do not create direct contact with the potential customers.

There are still click through ads paying out small sums but more and more companies advertising their products or services are having the end user sign on to their web page or purchase a product before making a pay out to a affiliated advertiser. This is good and bad news for the web sites posting the ads (the affiliated advertisers or partners).

  • Good news because the pay outs are substantially larger and can go as high as $100.00 per customer sign up or purchase.

  • Bad news because it takes more than a click on an ad for the advertiser to pay out

Advertising is back on the web and growing every day. Ask yourself, can you put online advertising to work for in your company or could you become an affiliated advertiser and make money with your web page. Now ask yourself, can you afford not using this form of promotion?
